Why You Want a Magnet Nurse

Our Magnet status proves we “attract” the best nurses who make patients their highest priority

Our nurses stand out among the best in the world. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) has twice designated us a Magnet hospital. This is the highest honor an organization can receive for nursing care after intense review of 5,000 pages of evidence and interviews with nurses during a hospital visit. In fact, we are among 4 percent of hospitals internationally to hold this honor and are the only Magnet hospital in the Lehigh Valley. It means we are a “magnet” for the best and brightest nurses, because we reward and recognize outstanding clinical practice.

So, what does this mean for you? It means you are in experienced, knowledgeable hands. Studies show Magnet hospitals have high patient satisfaction, lower mortality rates and excellent nurse-to-patient ratios. You benefit because Magnet hospitals attract the brightest nurses who have organizational support to exercise their professional knowledge and make patients their number one priority.

What makes us stand out?

  • Each year our nurses are recognized by the Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania as being among the best in the state.

  • Patients ranked our nursing care in the top 10 percent among similar hospitals nationwide.

  • Clinicians are leaders in quality care. One way is through bar coding medications, which ensures the right patient gets the right medication at the right time.

  • Clinicians are committed to using the latest technology. One example is through electronic charting in critical care, which allows nurses to spend more time with patients – one additional hour during each 12-hour shift.

  • Clinicians receive scholarships for continuing education. Scholarships also are offered to employees who want to become clinicians.

  • Our Bedside Scientist Institute, a nationally unique school within a hospital, educates and assists nurses with research to ensure we provide the most up-to-date care.

  • Our vacancy rate is better than the national standards and reflects our ability to attract and retain the best clinicians.

  • Clinicians are recognized as experts, and in the past year have given poster and oral presentations at regional, national and international conferences. They also have authored articles published in professional journals.

  • We implement community programs to mentor and recruit the next generation of clinicians, including a partnership with Cedar Crest College in which our nurses serve as teachers and adjunct professors.

  • Our clinicians enjoy working here and recommend LVHHN to their family and friends for care, according to an employee satisfaction survey.
